2023 November - Veterans Day Assembly at River Hill 

On November 8th, the SPV Club River Hill chapter held its annual assembly to commemorate veterans in Howard County and the Veterans Day holiday. Guest speakers included Captain Nafrettifi Griffin, River Hill teacher Mr. Moscato, and Commander George Delaney.

2023 July -  July 4th Parade

On the 4th of July, club members proudly marched with the respected American Legion Post 156 and other supporting Veteran organizations. Candy and patriotic flags were distributed to passersby. 

2023 February -  Military Academy Graduate Panel 

On February 22, the SPV Club invited Captain Rice, a former instructor at the US Naval Academy, and two graduates from the Air Force and Naval Academies to speak with River Hill students. 

2023 January -  Flag Retirement Ceremony with American Legion 

On January 28th, both new and old members of the River Hill chapter came to support the flag cutting and retirement ceremony with American Legion Post 156. Over 500 flags were successfully cut, and our members were able to participate in the ceremonious retirement of a flag along with the JROTC. 

2022 December - Sons of the American Revolution Gala 

Naomi Ling and Eliana Axler sang the National Anthem and a duet together at the SAR Gala on December 17th. National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and teaching American history to future generations.

2022 November - Howard County Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony

On November 13th, the Maryland chapter marched in the 8th Annual Howard County Veterans Day Parade. President Naomi Ling delivered the history of Veterans Day, Eliana Axler sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, and Historian Alex Gregory recited the poem "In Flanders' Fields" during the ceremony. 

2022 November - Veterans Day Assembly at River Hill 

On November 9th, the River Hill chapter of SPV invited Veterans from the Howard County Veterans Commission to spend some time interacting with about thirty club members, describing what it means to be a veteran, describing their experiences, how it affected their lives, and how their commitment continues to this day in service to other veterans, active military and their families, and to the community.

2022 October - Flag Retirement Ceremony with American Legion 

During the quarterly American Legion Post 156 flag retirement ceremony, the SPV Club helped cut and retire 100+ old flags from around Howard County. Members also had the opportunity to participate in a real retirement ceremony by burning the red and white stripes. 

2022 July - July 4th Parade 

On July 4th, two members of the Maryland chapter were able to ride on a decommissioned military vehicle in the annual River Hill July 4th Parade while passing candy to passersby. They were joined by the American Legion Post 156. 

2022 May - Memorial Day ceremonies with the American Legion and VFW

This Memorial Day weekend, the Maryland chapter attended three successive events hosted by the American Legion Post 156 and VFW Post 7472. Isabel Marcus sang the National Anthem on Saturday and Sunday. Other SPV members had the honor of shooting a live cannon during the flag raising ceremony at Harriet Tubman High School on Monday. 

2022 May - Marine Corps recruiting talk with Sergeant Buchanan

The SPV chapter at River Hill hosted military recruiter and active-duty Sergeant Gage Buchanan to talk about his experiences in joining the Marine Corps. Students learned about different career pathways to get involved in this branch. 

2022 April - Family Freedom Festival 

Hosted by the VFW Post 7472, the Family Freedom Festival brought together families of Veterans and volunteers alike on a gorgeous spring day. SPV members Naomi Ling, Shruti Vadlakonda, Dorothy Seylar, Alex Gregory, and Conner Spink helped out with children's crafts and game stations; Eliana Axler sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. 

2022 March - Packing party for Bailey's Bundles 

Several SPV members helped assemble 30+ tasty and thoughtful care packages for soldiers stationed all around the world. The packages included various snacks and handwritten letters by students from our very own local schools. SPV had the honor to help out Bailey's Bundles, a project founded by Lieutenant Millie Bailey. 

2022 March - Military recruiting talk with Sergeant Donnell 

The SPV chapter at River Hill hosted military recruiter and Veteran Sergeant Jared Donnell, who has over 14 years of experience in the Army. Students learned about different career pathways to get involved in serving their country. 

2022 February - Letter writing campaign with Bailey's Bundles 

To support the troops overseas in Operation Fidelity, the SPV chapter at River Hill High hosted a week-long letter writing campaign for the student body, who wrote 40+ letters of gratitude. SPV partnered with Bailey's Bundles, founded by Lieutenant Millie Bailey, a 104-year-old African-American WWII Veteran.

2020 November - Veteran's Day Parade

2020 August - 100th Birthday of Veteran Colonel Schott

In August 2020, a member of the SPV Club, Naomi Ling, attended and delivered the National Anthem at the celebration of the 100th birthday of Veteran Colonel Schott. Colonel Schott has been recognized for his courageous service in the Battles of Pelileu, Okinawa, and others. 

2019 November - Marine Corps' 244th Birthday Celebration 

On Veteran's Day 2019, the Marine Corps commemorated their 244th birthday. President of the Maryland chapter, Naomi Ling, attended and delivered the National Anthem during the ceremony. 

2019 November - Veteran's Day Parade 

On this year's Veteran's Day, members of the Maryland chapter participated in the Columbia Lakefront ceremony, hosted by the Howard County Veterans Foundation. Members Naomi Ling and Larasia Buckner sang the National Anthem and recited the poem "In Flanders' Fields" respectively. 

2019 July - July 4th Parade

On the 4th of July, club members proudly marched with the respected American Legion Post 156 and other supporting Veteran organizations. Candy and patriotic flags were distributed to passersby.

2019 July - Flag Retirement Ceremony

In July 2019, SPV members attended and represented the club in a flag retirement ceremony, hosted by the Veterans of Howard County. Students learned how to properly fold a new flag, and also how to prepare an old one for burning. 

2019 May - Memorial Day Poppies

On Memorial Day 2019, the SPV Club joined Post 156 in handing out faux poppies to passersby at stores. All the members had a great time learning more about this significant day for our country and meeting Howard County Veterans. 

2018 November - Veteran's Day School Presentation

The Friday before Veteran's Day, club members invited American Legion Post 156 to give a presentation about the significance of this day to the whole student body and staff of the school. The informational speakers and slideshow helped students understand what Veteran's Day means to our country. 

2018 November - Veteran's Day Parade 

On Veteran's Day, club members commemorated our nation's Veterans along with the American Legion Post 156 by participating in the Columbia Lakefront parade. A member of the club also recited the poem "In Flanders' Fields" to honor poppies, which are known as the "battlefield flower." 

California Chapters

2022 June - Memorial Day Service 

In May, several members of the new Los Angeles County chapter attended a Memorial Day service and met several distinguished figures, including Congresswoman Judy Chu and two Army Veterans. 

2022 March - Presentation with Dr. Tom Glenn 

In March, the California and Maryland chapters of the SPV Club partnered with Silicon Valley Youth to host a presentation with Dr. Tom Glenn, a former Vietnam War spy, linguist, and now author of more than 17 books. Over 50 students listened intently to his background and experiences, and later participated in a writing competition inspired by Dr. Glenn's renowned book Last of the Annamese.

New Jersey Chapters 

2021 - delivered handmade holiday cards to Menlo Park Veteran Homes

During the 2021 Thanksgiving holiday, New Jersey SPV interviewed six veterans at Menlo Park Veterans Home, New Jersey, including Mr. James Hauck, Mr. Donn Joseph Dwyer, Mr. John Dzitko, Mr. John Mckenna, Mr. John Prebula, and Mr. Gary Slevin.
